Christina Grimmie Remembered At Vigil

grimmie

Family, friends and fans gathered for a candlelight vigil in the New Jersey hometown Christina Grimmie, a singer who was shot dead as she signed autographs for fans following a Florida concert.

Hundreds paid tribute to 22-year-old Monday night in Evesham Township at the town’s Memorial Complex, where photos of her graced the field.

Authorities said Grimmie was gunned down by Kevin Loibl Friday night as she signed autographs after performing at a show in Orlando. A motive for the shooting has not been determined. Authorities said she had no personal connection to Loibl, who fatally shot himself after being tackled by her brother Marcus.

“She loved this town,” Marcus Grimmie told the crowd. “She loved this state. She loved singing. She loved the Lord and she loved me. She was my baby sister.”

Grimmie was a YouTube star who was widely known from her appearances on NBC’s “The Voice” two years ago.

VidCon, an annual conference in California for YouTube and other viral sensations, announced on Monday it will increase security following Grimmie’s murder.

Run Over Frog Airlifted To Hospital

frog

An unlucky Australian frog that was run over by a lawnmower is hopping its way around the continent to recovery.

Min Tims said she accidentally ran over the green tree frog in front of her home in Mount Isa in Queensland.

“She was devastated and asked if I could say prayers for him,” her niece, Felicia Morgan, told the Brisbane Times. She added that the frog “got clipped behind his head.”

Morgan got in touch with a frog hospital nearly 500 miles away in Cairns and an airline reportedly offered to carry the injured amphibian on one of its flights there.

“It was unbelievable coordination to be able to get the frog to us but he did eventually make it to Cairns and we picked him up from the airport,” Deborah Pergolotti, president of Frog Safe, told local media.

Staff at the hospital helped the frog recover from internal parasites but observed it had damage to one of its eyes.

The frog eventually returned to Mount Isa. Tims put the animal in a fish tank and started giving it a special diet.

“He is an extremely lucky animal to have survived being run over by basically a blender on wheels and we paid a huge amount of attention to him but he has recovered very well,” Pergolotti told the Times.

MMA Fighter Kimbo Slice Dead At 42

kimbo

Kimbo Slice, who rose from obscurity to become one of the biggest stars in mixed martial arts (MMA), died Monday at a Florida hospital. He was 42 years old.

The cause of Slice’s death was not immediately disclosed. Yahoo Sports reported that Slice had suffered a medical emergency at his home in Coral Springs, Fla. and was rushed to Northwest Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale.

Coral Springs police spokeswoman Sgt. Carla Kmiotek said Slice’s death was not under investigation and no foul play was suspected. Kmiotek said officers were dispatched to his home with the expectation that a crowd would gather there.

“We are all shocked and saddened by the devastating and untimely loss of Kimbo Slice, a beloved member of the Bellator family,” Scott Coker, the promoter’s president, said in a statement. “One of the most popular MMA fighters ever, Kimbo was a charismatic, larger-than-life personality that trancended the sport.”

King Tut’s Dagger Was Made From A Meteorite

dagger

An Egyptian dagger found in King Tutankhamun’s tomb was made with iron from a meteorite, a study has confirmed.

Using a hi-tech X-ray, the Polytechnic University of Milan in Italy found the famous dagger contained 10 percent nickel and 0.6 percent cobalt.

A comparison with 11 metallic meteorites found they were made of similar elements.

The dagger dates back to the 14th century B.C. and was found in the wrapping surrounding the right thigh of King Tut’s mummy. It features a decorated gold handle with a rounded knob of rock crystal. It was encased in a gold sheath that was decorated with a pattern of lilies, feathers and a jackal’s head.

Another separate gold blade was found under King Tut’s wrapping on the abdomen.

SiriusXM Suspends Glenn Beck

beck

SiriusXM has suspended Glenn Beck after an interview he did last week with author Brad Thor about a “hypothetical” situation where Donald Trump was president and abusing his power.

Thor mused on the air since Congress will not be able to remove Trump from office should he be elected, “what patriot will step up and do that if, if, he oversteps his mandate as president?” Beck said he agreed with his guest’s comment.

Both Beck and Thor came under fire for their comments. Thor defended himself on Twitter saying, “What @glennbeck & I discussed was a hypothetical scenario in which a President Trump goes full dictator.”

However, SiriusXM indicated Beck and his guest went too far.

“SiriusXM encourages a diversity of discourse and opinion on our talk programs. However, comments recently made by a guest on the independently produced Glenn Beck Program, in our judgement, may be reasonably construed by some to have been advocating harm against an individual currently running for office, which we cannot and will not condone,” SiriusXM told FOX411 in a statement. “For that reason, we have suspended ‘The Glenn Beck Program’ from our Patriot channel for the coming week and are evaluating its place in our lineup going forward. SiriusXM is committed to a spirited, robust, yet responsible political conversation and believes this action reflects those values.”

Google Submits Patent For Bionic Eye

bionic-eye

Google submitted a patent for a “bionic eye,” Thursday.

It would allow doctors to use technology to correct impaired vision.

The device could be described as an electronic contact lens. It would be implanted surgically and could be adjusted to allow the user to see things in focus far away or close up after being implanted.

Don’t throw your glasses out yet though, the submission of a patent does not meant that it will necessarily be produced any time soon or at all, but Google is considering it in the future.
