Donald "Don" Larry Box
Funeral services for Donald "Don" Larry Box, 66, of Cookeville, Tennessee
will be conducted
Friday, April 18, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Cookeville First United Methodist Church with interment to
follow in Rock Springs Cemetery in the Buffalo Valley Community of Putnam County.
Mr. Box died suddenly Tuesday, April 15, 2003 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.
Mr. Box was born June 23, 1936 in Lawrence County, Tennessee
to the late Austin and Lottie Olive Box.
Mr. Box received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering at Tennessee Tech University and
Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech University. He was a professor of
Electrical Engineering at TTU from 1957 until 1974. He was one of the founding partners in the
architectural engineering firm of Box-Cannella-Howland-Maffett & Rinks. Since August of 2000 he
has been the Information Systems Technician with the Cookeville City Police Department. He was a member
of the First United Methodist Church, where he served as an usher; a member of the church building
committee; and was a member of the Backsliders Sunday School Class. He was a licensed amateur radio
operator, KG4ITQ, who was an active member of the Cookeville Repeater Association, the American
Radio Relay League, and certified in emergency communications by the Amateur Radio Emergency Services.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Larry Box.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years - Sue Kemp Box of Cookeville, Daughter and Son-in-law -
Laurie and James Graham of Cookeville, Brother - Ronald L. Box of Five Points, TN, and Mother-in-law
- Magaret Lynn of Cookeville.
Active pallbearers will be Jimmy Philpot, Jim Lancaster, Nathan Honeycutt, David Hunter,
Charlie Rhea, Richard Rinks, Bobby Davis and Bill Maffett.
Honorary Pallbearers will be officers of the Cookeville Police Department.
Memorial contributions may be made to Cookeville First United Methodist Church, 204 East Spring
St., Cookeville, TN 38501.
Rev. Woodward Adams, Jr., Rev. John Michael Jones and Rev. Dot Fielder will officiate.
Mr. Box's family will receive friends Thursday, April 17, 2003
from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Cookeville chapel of Hooper-Huddleston and Horner Funeral Home.
