Crossville’s Portugal Tile Collection Ideal for Pool Areas

One interesting trend emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic is the increased demand for residential swimming pool installations. With many sunny vacation areas out of reach due to travel restrictions and cancellations, families are opting to create new backyard oases instead. Nationwide, pool builders report extremely long lead times as more jobs keep getting added to their schedules.

From waterfalls to deck surfacing, pool installers are designing backyard escapes that exude style and comfort while also transitioning beautifully from the home to the deck. As homeowners embark on adding swimming pools to their backyard spaces, they need to consider how they will layout and use the space with furniture, grills, outdoor kitchens, and firepits.

Crossville’s new Portugal collection is an excellent alternative that offers the style and performance required for pool decking. The collection is the first offered by Crossville with finishes for exterior and interior applications, making it a great solution for designs that need to visually flow from inside to outside while providing required performance characteristics for both areas.

Pool decks are wet areas, constantly exposed to water from the pool as well as outdoor elements, so pool designers need to specify decking surfaces that maintain slip resistance even when exposed to water. Engineered to an average minimum 0.60 DCOF and R11 classified, Portugal’s textured exterior tiles provide the superior technical performance required for these surfaces.

Not only does Portugal answer demanding performance requirements, but it also offers a naturally elegant look for pool decking and surrounding outdoor and indoor areas. Made with Crossville’s Digital + technology, the collection replicates the appearance of Portuguese Atlantic Dark limestone found only in the Mediterranean. The look features a subtle, organic surface with nuanced, tactile style. The line’s palette of six colors represents a mix of warm and cool neutrals offering pool installers a wide range of hues that blend beautifully with existing home spaces.

With two large exterior tile sizes (12“x24” and 24”x24”), pool designers can create visual intricacies in the decking area. Additionally, Crossville’s Portugal collection is available in the stunning triangular mosaic that is sheet-mounted and ready for installation on floors and walls. The triangular mosaic works well for linear or centered drains on wet area floors or to create a stunning vertical focal point on the wall. For more traditional looks, the sheet-mounted 2”x2” mosaic is also available.

From city/county permitting to filling the pool with water, new pool installation was about a 12-week process. Pool builders have expressed more than triple the requests for estimates and double the installation contracts. With this new demand, product delivery is top on their priority lists. And because this line is made by Crossville in the USA, it is readily available for projects, no waiting on shipments.
